Day 1: A Nairobi Safari | 1 Night
Nairobi, Kenya
Your safari begins at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where you are met by your guide and driven the short distance to Nairobi National Park, one of Kenya’s more unique wildlife destinations: this is the place to see big game with a big city skyline in the far distance. Not that you will see the city from your accommodation: Ololo Lodge has views of the surrounding bush and its bird-filled gardens. You have time for a game drive in the afternoon, keeping an eye out for the park’s heavyweights: lion, buffalo and rhino. Your cottage accommodation has two bathrooms, a convenient kitchenette and offers complimentary Wi-Fi.
Days 2-5: The Masai Mara | 4 Nights
Masai Mara, Kenya
The following day sees a drive to Kenya’s flagship national reserve, the Masai Mara and one of its most family-friendly accommodations – Sarova Mara Game Camp, complete with swimming pool, baby-sitters and – for parents – a massage therapist. With four nights here, there is plenty of time to explore the Masai Mara on morning and afternoon game drives; there is also the chance to go on a full-day drive complete with picnic lunch, and perhaps swap a morning drive for a hot-air balloon safari, an optional activity that takes you up a thousand feet above the savannah for stunning sunrise views. If you have coincided your safari with the arrival of the Wildebeest Migration from roughly mid-year, then this hilltop camp is ideally located to witness the herds as they move through the area.
Days 6-9: Fly to Mombasa | 4 Nights
After breakfast at camp you are driven back to Nairobi for lunch at the capital city’s famous Carnivore Restaurant (named for its selection of all types of meat and venison) before being dropped off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for a scheduled flight to Mombasa on Kenya’s Indian Ocean coast. You are met at the airport and transferred to Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa for four nights where you are free to do as much or as little as you like. The resort has plenty to keep everyone happy, like a swimming pools, a kids’ activity club, a playground and child-friendly beach on the one hand plus a health spa, gym and wide range of dining experiences on the other. The beach is as white as the resort’s name suggests and leads gently into the warm Indian Ocean, making it perfect for children.
Day 10: Bid Farewell to Kenya
After breakfast and perhaps a last stroll on the beach, you are transferred back to Mombasa Airport for a scheduled flight back to Nairobi for the end of this tour and your onward travel arrangements.
