Days 1-2: Culture in Nairobi | 1 Night
The family adventure begins when you land in Nairobi at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. You will be personally welcomed, and a private 6-seater 4×4 vehicle will transfer you to the House of Waine, located in Nairobi’s leafy Karen district. This 11-bedroom boutique hotel offers comfortable suites and a tranquil garden – perfect for regrouping after your long-haul flight.
In the afternoon, you can enjoy high tea on the lawns, and perhaps a swim in the heated pool. If you have time and energy to spare before your departure to the Masai Mara the following day, you can visit nearby attractions like the Giraffe Centre, Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Sanctuary or the Karen Blixen Museum.
Days 2-5: Family safari in the Masai Mara | 3 Nights
Masai Mara, Kenya
Wake up refreshed for a wholesome breakfast before your transfer to Wilson Airport. You will travel in a private 4×4 vehicle to the airport for a scheduled departure to the Masai Mara. Touching down at this famous African landscape, you will be greeted by a guide from Topi Mara Bush House, which will be your exclusive-use safari home for the following three nights.
At Topi House, you and your family will feel as though you have the Mara all to yourselves. The safari villa is perfectly located with access to the eastern side of the Masai Mara National Reserve, right alongside the Wildebeest Migration route, which you will be able to view in season (from about mid-year). You can enjoy safari activities and meals according to your own schedule, and your personal chef and safari guide will consult you on your preferences and interests. Experienced guides can teach children about spoor, animal tracking, beetles, bugs and birds, and when they are not enjoying the African bush, you might find your little ones having fun baking and cooking in the kitchen.
The house has three spacious bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom, which are linked via a large veranda. Enjoy home-cooked meals and family time in the comfortable living and dining area, or head out for fun picnics and dinners under the stars.
Days 5-9: Explore Kenya’s undiscovered north | 4 Nights
Laikipia, Kenya
Departing from the Masai Mara, you will fly to Nanyuki Airstrip in Kenya’s Laikipia region, and then transfer to the private 40 000-acre Ol Lentille conservation area, nestled in the foothills of Ol Olokwe Mountain. You will spend four nights in this pristine and breath-taking wilderness, staying at Chief’s House which offers exquisite mountain views, and a warm, cozy ambiance. As in the Masai Mara, you will have your own personal chef, safari guide and exclusive use of a 4×4 vehicle so that you can enjoy the experience at your own pace.
The day after arriving, you will depart on a trout-fishing excursion to Mount Kenya, accessed on a scenic helicopter flight. This exciting adventure offers a memorable variation on your traditional safari – you will be treated to awe-inspiring vistas and have interactive fun with the family while fishing.
In addition to having your own exclusive-use safari villa, the main lodge offers a large swimming pool with a view, a library, viewing deck and a wellness spa. There is a range of activities on offer including walking, birding, camel and horse-back safaris, quad biking and more.
On your final day, you will fly from Nanyuki Airstrip back to Wilson Airport in Nairobi. There you will have the use of a private 4×4 vehicle and a driver for a few hours before your flight, allowing you to take in some final sights or do some last-minute shopping in Kenya’s capital.
